Editing and Postediting

I offer editing or QA services for your content from English, Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese into Italian, Spanish or English.

Depending on the document and your requirements, I can perform four different types of editing:

• Proofreading: the simplest form of editing, mostly aimed at spotting and correcting surface mistakes in texts, such as punctuation, grammatical and spelling mistakes, or formatting.
  
• Revision: a deeper type of editing, it consists in improving the form and the content of the text, with a major focus on lexicon, style, fluency and readability. It allows to even rewrite portions of texts in order to make it flow.
  
• Light Machine translation postediting (LMTPE): similarly to proofreading, it consists of making essential corrections to a machine translated text. It aims to correct major grammatical and spelling errors, as well as anything that could be confusing or alter the original meaning, in order to make the automatic translation understandable, often ignoring the consistency in style and terminology. It should be used mostly for documentation that needs to be quickly accessible to the target audience (i.e. long, internal documents for the employees of an international company), but should never be employed for texts to be consumed by the public due to the poor quality of the final result.
  
• Full Machine translation postediting (FMTPE): similarly to revision, it combines the speed of machine translation and the skill of the translation. It focuses on correcting the fluency and the style of the text, aiming above the mere understandability of the text and instead make it sound as if it were translated by a human: terminology is accurate and consistent, the style and tone of the source document are respected, cultural aspects are taken into account, and the final result sounds as if it had been written in the target language. Given the excellent results, it is suited to translate documentation that will be consumed by the public and/or field experts.
